Material Scientist – PCB Materials

Huntsman Advanced Materials seeks a Material Scientist in Basel to develop advanced polymeric materials for PCBs and semiconductor packaging within its Product Innovation team.

This position sits within the Product Innovation team in Basel, Switzerland, with a focus on creating next-generation materials for electronics technology. The role is dedicated to designing high-performance solutions that support the future of PCB and semiconductor packaging applications.

Responsibilities

• Spot new opportunities for innovative polymeric materials tailored for PCB uses.
• Develop thermoset polymer recipes, build prototypes, and refine designs using test data and client input.
• Conduct proof-of-concept evaluations, analyze experimental results, keep detailed electronic lab records, and write technical reports.
• Track industry developments to find chances for intellectual property and product distinction, utilizing AI-assisted tools where applicable.
• Work with internal teams, clients, and outside partners to speed up product development and market entry.
• Adhere to all Environment, Health & Safety, Ethics, Compliance, and International Trade regulations.

Requirements

• PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• At least three years of experience in materials research and development.
• Deep understanding of polymer chemistry and physics, particularly thermoset systems and inorganic-filled formulations.
• Solid grasp of PCB manufacturing processes, electronic materials, and semiconductor packaging technologies.
• Practical experience in developing formulations and characterizing materials.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities in English.
