Member of Technical Staff (Backend & Infrastructure)

Jua, based in Zürich, is seeking a Senior Member of Technical Staff to build and scale backend systems and infrastructure for its physical AI platform. The role involves designing scalable pipelines, collaborating with ML engineers, and contributing to technical strategy in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

Jua is developing a physical AI system that simulates the real world to support energy, robotics, and future intelligence. The company is building this at global scale, with models already running across four continents. As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll help shape the backend and infrastructure, working in a fast-moving, lean environment that values innovation, speed, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy backend services and cloud infrastructure focused on performance, scalability, and practicality.
• Work across the entire tech stack, including databases, front-end integrations, and CI/CD pipelines, in a multi-cloud and bare-metal environment.
• Influence technical direction and system architecture as an early senior engineer, balancing rapid development with long-term maintainability.
• Collaborate with machine learning engineers to deploy models used in real-world decision-making, such as for power traders, ensuring reliability and usability.
• Identify and resolve performance issues, refactor critical components, and maintain a balance between fast iteration and system stability.
• Test ideas quickly, gather feedback, and continuously improve systems through short development cycles.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in a software engineering role.
• Proven experience in deploying and maintaining large-scale production systems.
• Ability to make quick, practical architectural decisions while managing technical debt.
• Proactive in spotting issues, performance bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.

• Experience in data engineering or related fields.
