Postdoctoral Researcher

Eawag seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher in Kastanienbaum to model Swiss lakes and determine safe phosphorus limits under climate change scenarios.

This position supports the Swiss Biodiversity Action Plan by creating numerical models that estimate tolerable phosphorus loads for lakes under current and future climate conditions. The researcher will focus on specific case lakes before expanding the analysis to larger Swiss water bodies.

Responsibilities

• Build and utilize models of different complexity levels, including simple box models and coupled physical-biogeochemical one-dimensional lake models.
• Start by developing models for two well-characterized, contrasting lakes, then apply these methods to a wider range of large Swiss lakes.
• Provide supervision and guidance for Bachelor and Master students involved in the project.

Requirements

• Hold a PhD in physics, environmental science, or engineering.
• Possess strong skills in numerical modelling and data analysis.
• Demonstrate proven expertise in Python programming.
• Show experience with open research practices.
• Have strong communication abilities in English.

Nice to have

• Previous experience working with aquatic systems and biogeochemical modelling.
