Process Engineer Electron-Beam Lithography

Coherent Switzerland AG seeks a Process Engineer in Zürich to bridge research and manufacturing for electron-beam lithography, turning advanced device concepts into scalable production processes.

This position sits at the intersection of research and manufacturing, focusing on the development of new products and the transfer of advanced device designs into high-volume production. The engineer will transform innovative concepts into manufacturable lithography processes, supporting the transition from prototype development to large-scale manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine electron beam lithography techniques for creating high-resolution semiconductor and photonic devices.
• Create, adjust, and verify lithography layouts to aid in the advancement of new technologies.
• Convert electron beam designs into optical lithography processes suitable for manufacturing.
• Manage and maintain electron beam lithography equipment to ensure stable operation and ongoing capability enhancements.
• Partner with R&D groups to turn product ideas into scalable manufacturing workflows.
• Conduct process characterization, Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and optimization.
• Use metrology tools like CD SEM to track critical dimensions, process performance, and reproducibility.
• Resolve lithography, pattern transfer, and stability issues by implementing corrective measures.
• Coordinate with equipment vendors for maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, and technology improvements.
• Collaborate with engineering, metrology, and manufacturing teams across global locations to align technology and ensure successful process transfer.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Microtechnology, or a related field.
• Several years of industry or research experience for Master’s holders, or practical electron beam lithography/microfabrication experience from doctoral research.
• Background in semiconductor manufacturing, photonics, microfabrication, or similar cleanroom settings.
• Practical experience with electron beam lithography systems and high-resolution patterning.
• Experience in lithography layout preparation and design data handling.
• Knowledge of process development, Design of Experiments (DOE), and statistical data analysis.
• Experience using metrology equipment such as CD SEM or similar characterization tools.
• Excellent written and spoken English proficiency.

Nice to have

• Understanding of photolithography fundamentals and the transfer of electron beam processes into optical lithography.
• German language skills.
