Senior Process Engineer DUV Lithography

Coherent Switzerland AG seeks a Senior Process Engineer in Zürich to lead DUV lithography process development, optimization, and qualification within an engineering-led research and production hub.

This position sits at the intersection of advanced R&D and semiconductor manufacturing at Coherent’s Zurich facility. The successful candidate will drive the build-up of lithography expertise, ensuring robust, high-yield processes for opto-electronic components and laser diodes used in industrial, life science, and data transmission applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and refine advanced DUV photolithography workflows, covering resist handling, exposure techniques, and pattern definition.
• Spearhead the creation and validation of new lithography methods, establishing clear process windows to guarantee stability and reproducibility.
• Oversee the installation, commissioning, and qualification of new lithography tools and track systems.
• Collaborate with Process Integration and R&D teams to define and enhance lithography process flows.
• Conduct process characterization, Design of Experiments (DOE), and data analysis to ensure robust, high-yield manufacturing.
• Lead problem-solving and root cause analysis efforts during process introduction and ramp-up phases.
• Partner with internal reference sites to transfer knowledge and align with established process implementations.
• Serve as the technical lead for lithography process build-up, helping to establish internal expertise.
• Work with equipment suppliers to support process development, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Coordinate with engineering, metrology, facility, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful process introduction, using metrology methods like CD-SEM for monitoring and control.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Semiconductor Technology, Microtechnology, or a related discipline.
• Several years of experience in semiconductors, photonics, MEMS, or advanced manufacturing environments.
• Strong background in lithography process development and manufacturing support.
• Hands-on experience with advanced lithography systems, particularly steppers or scanners.
• Proven track record of leading equipment installations, qualifications, or technology transfer projects.
• Experience with process characterization, DOE, statistical analysis, and process control methodologies.
• Very good written and spoken English and German skills.
