Product Designer

Cradle seeks a Mid-level Product Designer in Zürich to translate complex scientific and ML workflows into clear SaaS interfaces, collaborating closely with engineers.

This position operates at the convergence of software-as-a-service, machine learning, and molecular biology. The primary objective is to transform intricate scientific processes into intuitive, legible experiences for domain experts, bridging the gap between abstract product problems and shipped user interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Guide features from initial concept through research, design, and iteration until they are fully implemented.
• Collaborate directly with platform engineers to ensure design specifications translate accurately into the final product.
• Maintain and expand the design system, creating new components only when existing patterns are insufficient.
• Clarify states, error handling, and content variations to provide unambiguous instructions for development.
• Leverage user research insights to understand the daily challenges and workflows of scientists, informing design choices.

Requirements

• A portfolio demonstrating functional designs that successfully survived engineering implementation, rather than purely visual mockups.
• Proven ability to design data-heavy interfaces and simplify complex domains into logical user flows.
• Experience managing design systems with the practical judgment to prioritize consistency over rigid systematic perfection.
• Advanced proficiency in Figma, including auto-layout, variables, and component architecture.
• Strong collaboration skills with engineering teams, including a solid understanding of implementation constraints.
• A self-directed approach capable of navigating ambiguous problems and defining concrete solutions without exhaustive specifications.
• Openness to feedback and a willingness to iterate toward optimal outcomes.

Nice to have

• Prior experience creating software tools for scientific professionals.
• Knowledge of modern frontend stacks such as TypeScript, React, and CSS.
• Familiarity with developer tools and workflows, including Git.
• Interest or background in computational biology, bioinformatics, or machine learning.
