Uzh seeks a Research Technician for its Alzheimer's drug discovery program in Zürich. The role focuses on in vivo mouse models, histology, and cellular assays.
This position plays a key part in the group's in vivo drug discovery efforts targeting Alzheimer's disease. The successful candidate will conduct essential tissue and cell analyses to support these research initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage transgenic Alzheimer's mouse colonies, including breeding, dosing, sampling, perfusion, and dissection.
- Prepare brain tissue for histological examination, covering sectioning, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and image analysis.
- Execute cell-based assays, such as mammalian cell culture, microglial phagocytosis tests, and flow cytometry.
- Perform standard biochemical analyses, including ELISA and Western blot procedures.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experimental data.
Requirements
- Completion of training as a biomedical or biology laboratory technician (BMA / Laborant:in EFZ), or a Master's/PhD in biology, neuroscience, biomedicine, or a related discipline.
- Legal eligibility to work in Switzerland.
- Proven hands-on experience with rodent handling and in vivo techniques.
- Possession of a valid Swiss LTK Module 1 (FELASA function A/B) certificate for animal experimentation.
- Strong background in histology, including tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and microscopy.
- Experience in cellular biology, specifically mammalian cell culture and flow cytometry/FACS.
- Solid proficiency in English.
Nice to have
- Experience with colony breeding, blood and CSF sampling, and stereotaxic or intracranial injections.
- Familiarity with staining and quantifying brain pathology markers such as amyloid-β plaques, tau, and neuroinflammation indicators.
- Background in functional cell assays, particularly phagocytosis tests.
