Senior AI Platform Engineer - Security & Governance

Awin AG seeks a Senior AI Platform Engineer to build secure, governable AI platforms. The role focuses on implementing safety guardrails, privacy patterns, and governance mechanisms for responsible AI adoption.

The AI Platform Team at Awin AG empowers internal groups to develop, deploy, and manage AI-driven products with consistency and safety. This position concentrates on the foundational layer that supports AI engineering across the organization, establishing practical controls and standards that enable scalable, responsible innovation.

Responsibilities

• Establish and refine practical safety boundaries and default configurations for AI systems.
• Shape strategies for data privacy, PII management, and secure data handling within AI workflows.
• Develop and validate guidance for approved AI providers and models, setting clear usage expectations.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to convert risk and governance policies into reusable platform patterns and technical controls.
• Define production standards for AI systems focusing on safety, governance, and risk mitigation.
• Create automated validation checks and scalable governance tools to minimize manual approval bottlenecks.
• Enhance logging, tracing, and observability frameworks to ensure AI systems remain auditable and secure.
• Partner with Security, Legal, Architecture, and product teams to ensure standards are practical and proportionate.
• Educate teams on AI-specific risks, including unsafe outputs, provider misuse, privacy exposure, and trace hygiene.
• Produce clear documentation, patterns, and guidance to help teams apply standards consistently.
• Maintain high engineering standards through clean code, testing, and collaborative practices.
• Mentor colleagues to elevate the team's expertise in AI safety, governance, and privacy-aware engineering.

Requirements

• Proven software engineering fundamentals with experience in production environments.
• Hands-on background in security, governance, privacy, compliance, or risk engineering.
• Direct experience applying safety controls to AI or LLM-powered systems.
• Deep understanding of AI risks, including privacy exposure, PII handling, unsafe outputs, and provider/model risks.
• Ability to translate policy and risk requirements into practical engineering controls and defaults.
• Knowledge of making AI systems observable, auditable, and secure in production.
• Strong collaboration skills with engineers, architects, and non-technical stakeholders like Security or Legal.
• Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience managing the full lifecycle of platform capabilities, from design to rollout.
• Solid grasp of information security principles and secure solution design.
• Comfort with unit testing, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment practices.
• Excellent communication skills for both synchronous and asynchronous interactions.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and help shape evolving standards balancing safety and speed.
• Strong judgment and pragmatism to improve safety without adding excessive bureaucracy.

Nice to have

• Experience designing or implementing guardrails for AI or LLM systems.
• Familiarity with AI governance automation, readiness gates, policy checks, or preflight validation.
• Knowledge of tracing, auditability, and logging standards for AI systems.
• Experience with evaluation workflows, regression checks, and production readiness practices.
• Background in assessing third-party AI providers or model usage for risk and governance.
• Experience with privacy-by-design patterns in data-sensitive systems.
• Experience in regulated or higher-risk environments.
• Ability to write clear developer guidance and turn repeated risk questions into reusable standards.
