Senior AI Software Engineer

SOPHiA GENETICS seeks a Senior AI Software Engineer in Rolle, CH, to build full-stack AI features for genomic data interpretation within a small, agile engineering team.

This position sits within the Engineering Hub, a compact group responsible for turning early product concepts into functional software. The engineer will contribute to a global platform that links hospitals and laboratories, using artificial intelligence to process genomic data. The ultimate goal is to improve health outcomes for patients with cancer and rare diseases around the world.

Responsibilities

• Create, test, and maintain full-stack web applications and microservices.
• Develop retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines that process curated clinical data.
• Design system prompts, manage structured outputs, and handle data provenance and citations.
• Integrate LLM evaluation mechanisms, including graders and automated pipelines, into the product.
• Utilize managed LLM endpoints on Azure AI Foundry for efficient model operations.
• Conduct code and design reviews while providing mentorship to junior team members.
• Rapidly prototype ideas and iterate to deliver working software solutions.
• Work closely with Product, QA, Architecture, and PMO teams to ensure alignment with product goals.

Requirements

• 5–7 years of experience developing and deploying reliable web-based services.
• Proficiency in Java and SQL for backend microservice architecture.
• Strong skills in React and modern JavaScript for frontend development.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
• Hands-on experience building production LLM applications, particularly RAG pipelines or LLM evaluation systems.
• Experience using AI tools within the software development lifecycle.
• Excellent communication skills and a genuine interest in mentoring others.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of prompt engineering, structured JSON output, and techniques to address faithfulness, calibration, and hallucination.
• Experience with Azure AI Foundry or similar managed inference platforms.
• Familiarity with GraphQL, observability tools like Grafana and Loki, and modern DevOps practices.
• Background in genomics, digital healthcare, or other regulated industries.
