Senior HPC Performance Engineer

NVIDIA seeks a Senior HPC Performance Engineer to analyze application performance, identify optimization opportunities, and support compiler and application engineering teams.

This position sits within the NVHPC compilers & tools group at NVIDIA. The primary purpose is to examine High Performance Computing applications on HPC servers to understand their performance traits. The engineer then uses these insights to guide optimization efforts for both compiler development and application engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Help customers accelerate their HPC applications using GPU technology.
• Examine HPC software to determine performance characteristics and bottlenecks.
• Advise and influence the direction of compiler and application engineering teams based on performance analysis findings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least eight years of programming experience.
• Deep knowledge of Fortran, C, and C++, with a focus on parallel architecture programming techniques, particularly for compilers.
• Hands-on experience with OpenACC, OpenMP, MPI, and CUDA.
• Proficiency in performance analysis and tuning, along with a broad understanding of parallel application development tools and runtime environments.
• Strong mathematical foundation, including linear algebra and numerical methods.
• Ability to evaluate performance considerations, trade-offs, and their overall impact.
• Excellent interpersonal, logical problem-solving, time management, and task prioritization skills.
• Superior written and verbal communication abilities.
• Capacity to collaborate effectively within a dynamic, product-oriented team.

Nice to have

• Experience in leading or managing projects.
• In-depth understanding of machine and micro-architectures.
• Background in debugging, porting, and assembly language programming.
