The company is looking for an experienced backend engineer to build and operate the core services that manage a quantum network. This role involves designing APIs for topology tracking, device state management, and workflow execution, while also contributing to a plugin platform that extends business capabilities through stable, versioned interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the central backend services responsible for orchestrating, monitoring, and managing the quantum network infrastructure.
  • Implement core services for topology and node lifecycle management, configuration rollout, and path computation.
  • Build a plugin hosting model that handles registration, capability discovery, lifecycle management, and isolation, providing a clean SDK for developers.
  • Create observability-first services by integrating metrics, logs, and traces using OpenTelemetry.
  • Harden identity and access integration, including token scopes, multi-tenant boundaries, and service-to-service mutual TLS.
  • Ensure production-grade quality through unit, contract, and integration tests, as well as performance and resiliency testing and CI/CD quality gates.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in .NET backend development, with a focus on distributed systems and event/async patterns.
  • Strong .NET backend engineering skills, including ASP.NET Core and C#, with practical experience building and operating production services.
  • Experience building SDKs or frameworks for third-party plugins.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with graph/path computation, network controllers, or telecom OSS/BSS systems.
  • Background in security-intensive systems, including credential rotation, mTLS, and least privilege principles.
  • Knowledge of SDN/controller concepts and network management protocols such as NETCONF/YANG, along with PKI experience in service-to-service environments.
  • Familiarity with device-to-platform messaging patterns like SignalR or MQTT, and control-plane messaging.

What the company offers

  • A role at one of the fastest-growing and most exciting quantum companies in the world.
  • A competitive compensation scheme, benefits package, and equity plan.
  • Flexible work models that allow you to balance your life, family, and career.
  • Ongoing training and development to keep your skills sharp and your growth on track.
  • A career development plan within the IonQ group’s companies.
