Senior R&D Engineer (Electro-mechanical-mutiphysics)

Secheron S.A. in Satigny, CH, seeks a Senior R&D Engineer to develop high-speed switching devices like DC circuit breakers, combining electrical, mechanical, and multiphysics expertise. The role requires 8+ years in low/medium voltage R&D, a Master’s or PhD in relevant engineering fields, and proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and COMSOL MultiPhysics.

The role supports the Traction Power Systems unit at Secheron S.A., a global leader in high-power electrical equipment with over 140 years of Swiss engineering heritage. It focuses on developing advanced DC and AC traction substations and high-speed switching technologies, bridging electrical and mechanical engineering with expertise in power electronics, dielectrics, and thermal modeling.

Responsibilities

• Participate in R&D projects for high-speed circuit breakers and related switching technologies.
• Design and simulate electrical switching systems using MATLAB/Simulink and COMSOL MultiPhysics, covering electromagnetic, thermal, material, and dielectric aspects.
• Create and carry out test plans for prototypes, including dielectric, thermal, and mechanical validation.
• Work with cross-functional engineering teams, including mechanical and electronics specialists.
• Support manufacturing teams in optimizing material processing and industrialization.
• Guide junior engineers and contribute to technical strategy and innovation planning.
• Assist in patent applications, technical documentation, and compliance with IEC/IEEE standards.
• Develop and validate electronic control boards for switching and protection systems.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience in R&D for low voltage or medium voltage electrical equipment.
• Solid knowledge of railway protection systems and modern DC microgrids.
• Fluent English required; strong French is an advantage.
• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Applied Physics, or a related field.
• Strong grasp of electro-mechanical and magnetic systems.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in testing and validation within high-voltage environments.
• Familiarity with high-speed DC circuit breakers.
