Dexterous Endoscopes Sàrl seeks a Senior R&D Engineer to design and optimize next-generation endoscopes. The role combines mechanical design, prototyping, and hardware/software integration in a fast-growing EPFL spin-off.
As an EPFL spin-off preparing its first products for regulatory approval, the company is building a new generation of endoscopes to improve the safety, speed, and precision of minimally invasive procedures. This position focuses on developing the core endoscopy system, requiring an engineer comfortable at the intersection of hardware, manufacturing, and software who can take ownership of critical components and solve complex integration challenges.
Responsibilities
- Design the endoscope shaft and integrate actuation mechanisms, chip-on-the-tip cameras, light sources, and data transmission systems.
- Collaborate closely with the core engineering team, reporting to the CTO and working alongside hardware and software specialists.
- Improve system performance and influence how surgeons interact with and trust the technology.
- Conduct hands-on mechanical testing and system integration, including camera and light modules, while optimizing overall performance.
- Coordinate with external contract manufacturers and component suppliers to ensure production readiness.
Requirements
- At least four years of experience in system engineering, ideally within the medical device sector.
- Fluent English proficiency at a C1 level.
- Extensive background in mechanical design, mechatronics, kinematics, and prototyping.
- Strong grasp of hardware and software integration, including tablet or embedded display systems.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, IEC 60601-1, and regulated medical device production environments.
- Previous experience in endoscopy or similar MedTech companies.
