Distalmotion seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join its Application and Data team in Épalinges, CH. The role focuses on developing connectivity and data systems for the Dexter robotic surgery platform, integrating local software with cloud analytics and enabling remote monitoring.
This position is part of the Application and Data team, tasked with creating the technical link between the Dexter robotic system and the cloud-based analytics platform. The engineer will design data-driven solutions for reliable data ingestion, ensure data quality, and support secure telemetry from the operating room.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop software modules in C++/Qt for system servicing, diagnostics, and configuration.
- Contribute to full system design, prototyping, and verification, connecting local software with cloud data systems.
- Lead efforts to implement remote monitoring and data connectivity features for the Dexter system.
- Create and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingestion, processing, and visualization from robot to cloud.
- Optimize the DataFactory environment for reliability and performance in Azure and Databricks.
- Develop automated validation and testing procedures to identify data pipeline and application issues.
- Guide internal tool configurations to improve data ingestion and governance compliance.
- Participate in cross-functional investigations, including CAPA and root cause analysis for data issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in data engineering or connectivity solutions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with stakeholders across Operations, Finance, Sales, and R&D.
- Expertise in C++ for Windows and advanced proficiency in the Qt framework.
- Deep experience with Databricks, Azure, Terraform, and Azure DevOps.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for data modeling and pipeline orchestration.
- Familiarity with data governance and medical device quality management systems.
- Knowledge of data security practices, including access control, encryption, and anonymization.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and adaptability in fast-paced settings.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting technical insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to document data governance policies, workflows, and quality standards clearly.
Nice to have
- Experience with industrial communication buses (e.g., CAN, EtherCAT) or embedded platforms.
