CSEM seeks a Senior R&D Engineer in Neuchâtel to design and integrate photonic integrated circuits for telecom, sensing, and quantum applications.
This position sits at the center of innovative work spanning telecommunications, sensing, and quantum technologies. The engineer will collaborate closely with academic and industrial partners as well as photonic foundries to advance successful PIC system development.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects to meet defined goals
- Support project acquisition efforts, grant proposals, and commercial offers
- Work on multiple R&D initiatives simultaneously
- Design and simulate photonic integrated circuit components and systems across various platforms
- Integrate and characterize PIC systems
- Strengthen the organization's standing through patents, publications, and conference presentations
Requirements
- 5-10 years of experience designing on common PIC platforms such as Si, SiN, InP, or LNOI
- Expertise in mask design, Python programming, and simulation tools like Lumerical, Luceda, Comsol, or VPI Photonics
- Hands-on experience with PIC testing using optical and RF laboratory equipment
- Background in realizing PIC systems with knowledge of electronics, RF, and packaging
- Active participation in laboratory work
- Ability to document work and produce technical writing
- Professional-level English and French communication skills
Nice to have
- Experience in one or more PIC application fields
- German language skills
- Track record (publications, patents) in PIC systems.
