Senior Software Engineer

Nexthink seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design scalable backend systems and AI-driven services in Lausanne. This hybrid role requires strong expertise in Java, Python, or Node.js within cloud-native environments.

This position sits within an AI-focused team tasked with developing and maintaining the core infrastructure for AI-powered products. The role demands close collaboration across product, infrastructure, and frontend groups to deliver robust, high-performance solutions.

Responsibilities

• Architect and expand distributed backend systems capable of supporting millions of users.
• Manage the full lifecycle of feature delivery, including design, coding, deployment, and ongoing monitoring.
• Build real-time, low-latency APIs and backend services specifically for AI conversational platforms.
• Develop cloud-native applications using Java or Python, prioritizing reliability and scalability.
• Implement infrastructure solutions involving AWS, Docker containerization, and Kubernetes or ECS orchestration.
• Guarantee system resilience, fault tolerance, and compliance within high-throughput operational environments.
• Partner with product managers and infrastructure engineers to produce production-ready systems.
• Participate in technical reviews, share knowledge, and help establish best practices for backend and infrastructure engineering.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
• At least five years of professional experience in backend engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Java (version 17 or newer), Python, or Node.js.
• Demonstrated history of designing and scaling backend systems for high-traffic or real-time services.
• Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures, particularly AWS, along with Docker and Kubernetes/ECS.
• Solid background in designing high-availability systems with robust failover and resiliency mechanisms.
• Expertise in observability practices, including logging, monitoring, tracing, and metrics.
• Fluent English communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java frameworks such as Micronaut or Spring.
• Additional proficiency in Python development.
• Familiarity with distributed data systems like Redis or Apache Kafka.
• Exposure to Large Language Model integration, including prompting, evaluation, and observability.
• Experience in performance tuning and scaling for high-throughput environments.
• Knowledge of GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
