Sensor and Automation Specialist/Engineer (all genders)

Group Engineering seeks a Sensor and Automation Specialist in Dübendorf to lead R&D projects, manage machine programming, and help build a new engineering lab.

This position focuses on research and development activities involving sensors, test equipment, and automation systems. The specialist will oversee programming for various machinery and a production MES while contributing to the setup of a new, advanced engineering laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, upgrade, and maintain sophisticated test benches within the laboratory.
• Assist in defining the layout and organization for the new laboratory or building.
• Create and execute initial sample tests and proof-of-concept evaluations.
• Draft engineering documentation and prepare presentations.
• Coordinate or participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
• Plan projects, estimating risks related to technical surprises and potential delays.
• Engage in customer-focused tasks and collaborate with international teams.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Systems and Controls, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or an equivalent qualification.
• Deep knowledge of sensors, actuators, electronics, and control systems theory.
• Strong background in mechanical engineering and programming.
• Professional proficiency in both English and German.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience in machine construction.
• Familiarity with electric circuit design and E-CAD tools.
• Ability to drive continuous improvement while meeting goals.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
