Site Reliability Engineer

Adaptyv seeks a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to ensure the reliability of its automated lab infrastructure, where software failures have direct physical-world consequences.

Adaptyv is developing an automated laboratory that enables AI agents to conduct biological experiments. As a rapidly expanding biotech firm trusted by major biopharmas and AI labs, the company relies on a complex software and hardware stack. In this environment, system reliability is critical, as issues like a halted liquid handler or a stalled experiment carry tangible physical-world impacts.

Responsibilities

• Establish comprehensive observability across the entire stack by implementing metrics, logs, traces, and dashboards.
• Define service-level objectives (SLOs), instrument services accordingly, and configure alerting mechanisms.
• Strengthen data and processing pipelines to avoid data corruption or experiment stalls.
• Lead incident response efforts, including triage, mitigation, and conducting blameless postmortems.
• Enhance deployment safety and rollback capabilities across services.
• Automate manual recovery procedures and runbooks to minimize operational toil.
• Collaborate with software and lab-automation teams to embed reliability as a core system property.

Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in systems and software engineering, with production coding experience in Python and/or TypeScript.
• Proven SRE or production ownership background, including running services and managing on-call pager duties.
• Proficiency in observability practices, including metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerting.
• Strong incident management instincts: remaining calm, quickly identifying root causes, and preventing recurring issues.
• An automation-first mindset, prioritizing the automation of repetitive tasks.
• A pragmatic approach to reliability, effectively distinguishing between critical and non-critical needs.

Nice to have

• Experience bridging software and the physical world, such as hardware, lab environments, IoT, queues, pipelines, or large-scale cloud infrastructure.
• A personal interest or curiosity in biology.
