Software Development Specialist – Automation

The company seeks a mid-level Software Development Specialist for Automation in Campocologno, Switzerland. The role focuses on PLC programming, SCADA, and HMI development to support automated equipment and continuous improvement.

Engineers in this position are essential to the organization's goal of saving and sustaining lives. The role ensures that innovative product design, production, and patient delivery meet global customer and patient needs through effective automation solutions.

Responsibilities

• Create and update PLC software, primarily using Rockwell and Siemens platforms, alongside SCADA and tailored HMI applications.
• Partner with internal teams, external vendors, and facility staff to guarantee the proper design, integration, and commissioning of automated machinery.
• Review controls data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and boost equipment performance.
• Resolve automation-related problems and suggest technical upgrades for current systems.
• Set up and oversee industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Profinet, and EtherCAT.
• Assist with robot-based systems and their integration with peripheral devices.
• Conduct machine start-up, testing, operator training, and provide on-site support.
• Travel up to 40% of the time, both domestically and internationally.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electronic, Biomedical, or Automation Engineering.
• 3–5 years of experience in machine controls and PLC programming.
• Strong knowledge of automation principles, servo systems, electrical/pneumatic design, industrial vision systems, and robot software (Staubli, ABB, Fanuc).
• Familiarity with ISO/ANSI/GAMP5 standards and CFR21 Part 11.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• English B2 minimum.
• Italian required for the Campo site.
