ITech Consult AG seeks a Senior Solution Engineer for Roche’s MedTech team in Rotkreuz. The role focuses on maintaining and evolving 'Roche Linux', a custom Debian-based platform for medical devices, requiring deep Linux expertise and strong communication skills.
This position places the engineer at the center of Roche’s medical instrument development, working within a specialized group of software and hardware experts. The primary mission is to maintain and enhance 'Roche Linux', a purpose-built Debian-based operating system that supports next-generation medical devices. The successful candidate will act as a core contributor and consultant, ensuring the foundational OS remains robust, secure, and specifically tailored to the stringent requirements of the MedTech industry.
Responsibilities
- Manage the custom Debian-based distribution, including kernel modifications, driver integration, and the creation or maintenance of Debian packages.
- Enhance the infrastructure and workflows used for building, testing, and releasing the Linux distribution.
- Serve as the primary expert for complex, low-level system issues, conducting deep-dive troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Advise internal project teams on best practices for leveraging the Roche Linux platform.
- Identify opportunities to improve distribution capabilities, tools, processes, system performance, security, and automation.
Requirements
- Over 10 years of hands-on experience with Linux across the entire stack.
- Proven track record of building, modifying, or maintaining a customized Linux distribution, with a strong preference for Debian.
- Expertise in creating, patching, and maintaining .deb packages from scratch, including a solid understanding of policy, dependencies, and best practices.
- Fluency in Python and Shell scripting for developing tools and automating system tasks.
- Strong grasp of operating system theory, software build systems (Make, CMake), and the full testing and packaging lifecycle.
- Advanced English proficiency is mandatory.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in a systems programming language such as C or C++.
- Experience with embedded systems, the ARM platform, hardware drivers, and low-level hardware/software integration.
- Knowledge of modern infrastructure technologies including Virtualization (KVM), Containers (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS.
- German language skills are a welcome bonus.
