Staff Android Developer

Specialized Switzerland Retail GmbH seeks a Staff Android Developer to lead architecture, mentor teams, and drive Kotlin Multiplatform adoption for rider-facing mobile applications.

This role focuses on guiding the technical direction of rider-facing mobile apps, providing leadership across multiple teams, and partnering with product and design to deliver scalable experiences. The position also involves driving cross-platform strategy through shared code and Kotlin Multiplatform adoption.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Android apps using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and event-driven patterns.
• Implement shared business logic with Kotlin Multiplatform to allow code reuse across Android and iOS.
• Create efficient caching strategies to boost app performance, responsiveness, and offline reliability.
• Define architectural patterns and technical standards for mobile apps, ensuring scalability and high performance.
• Mentor senior developers through code reviews, technical design feedback, and coaching to elevate team skills.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineering leaders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Contribute to technical planning by evaluating trade-offs and recommending strategies that influence product direction.
• Design advanced event-driven architectures and caching systems to optimize user experience.
• Break down complex features into manageable tasks and lead implementation efforts for significant challenges.
• Champion modern frameworks like Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, MVVM, modular architecture, and Kotlin Multiplatform.
• Solve ambiguous problems requiring independent judgment and conceptual thinking.
• Lead cross-team initiatives to improve development processes, shared tools, and mobile infrastructure.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software development experience.
• 8+ years of Android software development experience.
• 3+ years of technical team leadership.
• Deep expertise in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and Android event-driven programming.
• Strong experience with Kotlin Multiplatform and a track record of building shared mobile codebases.
• Proven architectural skills for designing modular, scalable, and efficient mobile and cross-platform systems.
• Hands-on experience implementing complex caching solutions to enhance performance and offline reliability.
• Ability to mentor senior developers and foster a culture of quality and innovation.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills to align stakeholders across Product, Design, and Engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to handle significant, unique challenges requiring strategic thinking.
• Recognized as a subject matter expert in Android development, mobile architecture, or cross-platform solutions.
