Senior Android Software Engineer - Geneva

Proton is seeking a Senior Android Software Engineer in Geneva to build privacy-focused mobile applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for its suite of secure products.

This position involves joining one of several high-impact product teams responsible for core services such as Proton Mail, Proton Drive, Proton VPN, Lumo, and Meet. The engineer will develop privacy-first applications utilized by millions globally, tackling technically ambitious challenges that deliver tangible real-world results.

Responsibilities

• Develop and release high-quality Android applications utilizing Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and a shared Rust core.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers throughout the organization.
• Manage features from initial scoping and technical design through to final delivery and subsequent iterations.
• Guide other engineers and elevate the overall technical standards within the team.
• Establish quality benchmarks for privacy-centric consumer products operating at scale.

Requirements

• Proven track record of building and launching robust Android apps with Kotlin.
• Deep proficiency in Jetpack Compose and contemporary Android development methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to take full ownership of feature lifecycles.
• Expertise in creating maintainable, scalable, and testable mobile architectures.
• Ability to navigate large codebases and collaborate effectively across multiple teams.
• Experience in mentoring colleagues and improving team technical capabilities.
• Solid grasp of performance optimization, concurrency, multithreading, and memory management on mobile devices.
• Knowledge of mobile scalability factors, including caching strategies, network efficiency, responsiveness, and offline capabilities.
• Comfort with ambiguity and active participation in product and technical discussions.

• Background in privacy, security, encryption, sync systems, or offline-first architectures.
• Experience with the Rust programming language.
