Student Research Assistant (25%)

UniDistance Suisse seeks a part-time Student Research Assistant to support an SNF-funded project on acoustic metamaterials, collaborating with the Technical University of Munich.

This position contributes to a Swiss National Science Foundation initiative focused on developing numerical methods for the efficient design of acoustic metamaterials. The role involves optimizing computational models derived from boundary and finite element discretizations to enhance matrix storage and solution efficiency, working in partnership with experts at the Technical University of Munich.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation and validation of algorithms for acoustic metamaterial design.
• Work closely with doctoral candidates involved in the research project.
• Have the opportunity to develop an M.Sc. thesis based on the project's scope.

Requirements

• Be an advanced student at a Swiss higher education institution in applied mathematics, scientific computing, or engineering, maintaining excellent academic records.
• Demonstrate strong programming proficiency, particularly in Python or Matlab.
• Possess very good command of the English language.

Nice to have

• Academic background in applied mathematics with exposure to numerical linear algebra, model reduction, PDE numerical methods, machine learning, or numerical optimization.
• A genuine interest in applying mathematical concepts to practical engineering challenges.
• Ability to work independently, showing stamina and intellectual curiosity.
