Harmattan AI seeks a Mid-level Aerodynamic Engineer in Lausanne to design and validate flight physics for UAV and eVTOL platforms using simulation and Python tooling.
The company is expanding its engineering capabilities following a significant funding round to build autonomous defense systems. This position focuses on the complete lifecycle of aerodynamic design, from initial concepts through simulation and physical testing, ensuring stability and performance for next-generation aircraft.
Responsibilities
- Perform aerodynamic layout analysis for fixed-wing, multicopter, and eVTOL designs using various fidelity levels.
- Execute Python scripts to automate data processing, link design tools with simulations, and streamline analysis workflows.
- Develop and maintain aerodynamic databases and stability derivatives to support GNC control law development.
- Collaborate with mechanical and guidance teams to ensure design choices are feasible and stable.
- Support wind tunnel and flight test campaigns to verify simulation results against real-world performance data.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering with a focus on aerodynamics or flight mechanics.
- Strong understanding of lift, drag, stability principles, and flight dynamics.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis and automation, including libraries like NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas.
- Practical experience with aerodynamic simulation tools (CFD, XFoil, OpenVSP, AVL) or physical testing methods.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or CATIA for handling geometry constraints.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, small-team environment with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
Nice to have
- Fluency in French.
- Experience building or flying RC aircraft or drones.
- Knowledge of propeller design and airframe integration.
- Background in aeroacoustics.
