Associate R&D Specialist Flavors

Nestlé seeks an Associate R&D Specialist in Flavors to advance innovation in Flavor Science within the Nestlé Institute of Food Science in Lausanne. The role involves developing sensory solutions, driving research, and shaping scientific strategy.

This position sits within the Nestlé Institute of Food Science and supports Nestlé Research, a global team primarily based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The specialist plays a key part in pushing forward innovation and product renovation across all Nestlé categories by focusing on Flavor Science.

Responsibilities

• Create scientific and innovative methods to understand and adjust taste and aroma for better sensory experiences.
• Gather, analyze, and apply research findings to help build new product ideas.
• Help define and execute the future scientific direction for flavor science.
• Work with various teams to conduct advanced research on taste and aroma, creating meaningful prototypes.
• Oversee project tasks to achieve goals and deadlines, working with specialists in sensory science, physiology, and materials.
• Handle project finances and ensure smooth knowledge sharing with Product Technology Centers.
• Keep track of new trends in flavor science and communicate useful external technologies from universities and industry.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Food Chemistry or Food Sciences, with an understanding of how flavors are created and changed.
• Experience in research and applied science related to reaction flavors, Maillard reactions, lipid oxidations, and their connection to sensory benefits.
• Hands-on experience in analytical labs, particularly with volatile and non-volatile compounds using GC-MS, GC-O, and LC/MS.
• Skills in programming languages like Python and R, along with experience in statistical analysis (PLS, PCA) and data visualization.
• Fundamental understanding of sensory techniques.
• Strong written and spoken English communication abilities.
