Flavor Engineer

Philip Morris Services SA seeks a Flavor Engineer in Neuchâtel to lead flavor material development and lifecycle management within its R&D division, supporting the transition to smoke-free products.

This position sits within the Research and Development department, which serves as the core driver behind the company’s strategic vision to replace traditional cigarettes with smoke-free alternatives. The role is responsible for enabling the end-to-end process of flavor materials, covering their development, qualification, deployment, and ongoing lifecycle management across various product platforms.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical analysis and evaluate ingredients to support product development.
• Reformulate and optimize structured flavor approaches, using sensory and chemical data to hit target profiles.
• Align product outcomes with consumer expectations and performance standards.
• Provide final formulas, blending recipes, and technical specifications required for production.
• Create laboratory prototypes and convert them into scalable, manufacturable solutions.
• Support the creation of harmonized specification frameworks.
• Maintain compliance with quality, regulatory, and operational standards.
• Draft clear technical documentation and production specifications.
• Investigate quality deviations and execute corrective actions.
• Train and assist global team members on specification and system processes.
• Lead continuous improvements in specification management processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry.
• At least three years of experience in manufacturing, Quality Assurance, or external flavor houses within food, beverage, or tobacco sectors.
• Fluent proficiency in written and spoken English.
