Liom, a Swiss health-tech startup, seeks a Mid-level Backend Engineer to build a new data platform on Google Cloud for its non-invasive glucose monitoring wearable.
This position is central to scaling the company's data acquisition capabilities. The engineer will design and implement a robust data platform on Google Cloud, focusing on creating load-balanced APIs for data ingestion, validation, and operational workflows to support the startup's medical device development.
Responsibilities
- Create secure, standardized FastAPI services to handle external data intake and internal laboratory workflows.
- Develop high-bandwidth internal APIs to manage experimental data, imaging pipelines, and metadata streams.
- Implement strong authentication and authorization protocols to ensure the secure processing of sensitive health information.
- Collaborate with data science, product, and laboratory teams to guarantee data quality and accessibility for downstream applications.
- Translate business requirements into technical architectures and clearly communicate trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Address emerging requirements for handling unstructured data from sales, operations, and business units.
Requirements
- At least three years of experience delivering business value through API-driven infrastructure and software services.
- Strong proficiency in Python as the primary programming language.
- A DevOps-oriented approach that balances security, reliability, and practical operational needs.
- Experience working with containers across various Linux distributions.
- Ability to manage artifacts and libraries effectively to deliver source-controlled services.
Nice to have
- Practical experience with Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, or other serverless architectures.
- Familiarity with GitHub Actions and modern CI/CD pipeline implementations.
- Background in data governance, schema evolution, or ML-ops workflows.
- Prior exposure to health-tech, regulated data environments, or scientific computing.
