Backend Software Engineer - Indexing

Deepjudge, a Swiss AI and ICT scale-up, seeks a Senior Backend Software Engineer to build and maintain high-performance indexing systems for its search engine. The role requires expertise in backend development, scalability, and performance optimization, with work primarily onsite in Zurich.

This role involves joining a team that develops a high-performance product at scale, focusing on the indexing system that powers the search engine. The system processes queries over hundreds of millions of documents in milliseconds, requiring highly performant and scalable software. Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using modern tools and frameworks
• Own and maintain core components of the indexing infrastructure
• Work with other engineers to define, design, and deliver new features
• Optimize performance and scalability in data processing pipelines
• Integrate with third-party data providers and use their APIs effectively
• Review code to ensure high quality and maintainability
• Participate in agile processes such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives
• Stay current with emerging industry trends and technologies

Requirements

• A Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
• At least 2 years of experience as a Backend Software Engineer, preferably in a scale-up or fast-growing environment
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages: Python, Rust, Go, or C++
• Experience with databases, including SQL and/or NoSQL systems
• Familiarity with modern web architectures and cloud platforms
• A passion for solving complex problems and optimizing performance at scale
• Clear communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative team
• Ability to take ownership and work independently when required

• Experience in information retrieval or search systems
