Bioengineer / Molecular Biologist

Adaptyv seeks a mid-level Bioengineer or Molecular Biologist for a hands-on research role in Lausanne, Switzerland, to develop and optimize protein expression and DNA synthesis workflows for an automated lab powered by AI.

This position is part of the biology and production team at Adaptyv, a rapidly growing biotech company building an automated laboratory where AI agents conduct biological experiments. The role focuses on translating molecular biology methods into automated workflows, supporting the company's mission to provide AI with access to the physical world through advanced software and hardware infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Create and refine protein expression protocols across cell-free, E. coli, and mammalian platforms.
• Resolve protein expression challenges, including issues with misfolding or aggregation.
• Establish and execute DNA synthesis and assembly procedures, such as PCR, Golden Gate, and Gibson assembly.
• Enhance the yield, accuracy, and throughput of DNA synthesis and assembly processes.
• Develop new assays or modify existing ones to fit the automated platform.
• Conduct bench-level molecular biology experiments, analyze results, and iterate on protocols.
• Collaborate with the automation team to convert manual methods into automated workflows.
• Analyze experimental data, pinpoint failure modes, and systematically improve methods.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related field.
• Extensive hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, prioritizing practical bench skills over academic credentials.
• Proficiency in protein expression and purification.
• Experience with DNA synthesis, cloning, or assembly methods (PCR, Golden Gate, Gibson).
• Ability to independently interpret data from chromatograms, binding curves, and expression gels.
• Meticulous experimentalist with strong note-taking, control design, and reproducibility practices.
• Resourceful troubleshooter who uses literature, first principles, and experimentation to solve problems.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-throughput DNA synthesis, cloning, or assembly methods.
• Interest in automation and transitioning protocols into automated workflows.
