Internship Bioengineering / Molecular Biology

Adaptyv seeks an intern to support its automated lab operations, focusing on molecular biology workflows, automation, and AI-driven experimentation in Lausanne.

Adaptyv is developing an automated laboratory where AI agents conduct biological experiments. This internship provides hands-on experience in building infrastructure that connects AI systems to physical lab processes, contributing to a rapidly growing biotech company trusted by leading biopharmas and AI labs.

Responsibilities

• Manage the complete molecular cloning and protein production pipeline, including PCR, assembly, transformation, expression, and purification.
• Perform quality control on constructs and proteins using techniques like capillary electrophoresis, sequencing, and SDS-PAGE, alongside characterization assays for binding, expression, and stability.
• Optimize existing workflows to improve reliability, speed, and protocol quality while reducing failure rates.
• Operate liquid handlers and lab automation equipment, transitioning manual procedures toward automated solutions.
• Maintain rigorous data documentation, sample tracking, and result reproducibility to ensure traceability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to biological processes, reagents, and instruments rather than merely reporting them.

Requirements

• Demonstrated practical expertise in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, transformation, and electrophoresis, with protein expression and purification being advantageous.
• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Science Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Proactive mindset with the ability to identify and execute tasks independently without requiring constant direction.
• Comfortable leveraging AI tools to accelerate learning and enhance workflow efficiency.
• Commitment to high standards and rapid execution, ensuring experimental accuracy while maintaining momentum.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with scripting in Python or experience with liquid-handling automation systems.
