Roche seeks a student intern in Basel to support the technical development and formulation of sterile gene therapy dosage forms within a BSL-2 laboratory setting.
This internship focuses on the technical preparation and development of sterile dosage forms for biotechnologically and chemically engineered molecules, with a specific emphasis on novel gene therapies. The intern will contribute directly to formulation efforts while working within a specialized laboratory environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily cell culture tasks in a BSL-2 laboratory, handling mammalian cells and recombinant adeno-associated viral vectors (rAAVs) safely.
- Develop and validate a cell-based assay designed to evaluate the stability of rAAV formulations.
- Execute analytical procedures including dd/qPCR, flow cytometry, HPLC, and DLS, alongside preparatory steps like RNA isolation.
- Plan experimental studies to align with project timelines, draft protocols, and conduct experiments.
- Record, analyze, and present experimental data to both local and wider team members.
- Participate in departmental initiatives focused on innovative formulations, processes, and technologies.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or having completed within the last 12 months a Bachelor's or Master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biotechnology, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biology, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in cell culture techniques.
- Ability to work independently in a laboratory setting without constant supervision.
Nice to have
- Prior exposure to molecular or biophysical analytical methods commonly used in gene therapy formulation.
- Familiarity with electronic lab book systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as MS Excel, Google Sheets, GraphPad Prism, R, or JMP.
