Intern – Cell Biology (6 Month Contract)

Monte Rosa Therapeutics in Basel seeks an intern for a 6-month contract to support targeted protein degradation research through cellular assay development and data analysis.

Monte Rosa Therapeutics, a leader in targeted protein degradation, is looking for an intern to assist in the elimination of disease-causing proteins. The successful candidate will receive direct mentorship from experienced scientists while contributing to complex biological challenges and gaining exposure to various drug discovery initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Create and validate new cellular assays to assess the proximity between E3 ligases and target proteins, thereby strengthening the company's technological capabilities.
• Develop strategies to optimize assays, focusing on improving signal strength, specificity, robustness, and reproducibility.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret dose-response and screening data to formulate hypotheses and refine critical assay parameters.
• Collaborate across different departments and present findings at team and project meetings.
• Apply insights gained to the discovery pipeline to help identify novel degraders for significant biological targets.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a master’s degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related life science discipline.
• Essential experience with mammalian cell culture and maintaining sterile laboratory conditions.
• Proficiency in standard cell and molecular biology methods, including plasmid transfection, immunoassays, viability tests, cloning, and sequencing.

Nice to have

• Prior experience with microplate-based cellular assays and laboratory automation tools, such as liquid handlers.
• Familiarity with protein proximity techniques like Split-protein systems, protein-fragment complementation, NanoBRET, NanoBiT, or proximity labeling.
• Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented setting.
