Internship in BGE Sensor Development (Rotkreuz, 6-12 month)

Roche seeks an intern in Rotkreuz to develop and optimize electrochemical sensors for IVD diagnostics over a 6-12 month period.

This internship provides a flexible 6-12 month opportunity to work alongside experts on the design and enhancement of sensors used in blood gas, electrolyte, and metabolite analysis. The position allows candidates to apply scientific knowledge to real-world healthcare challenges while contributing to the advancement of medical diagnostics.

Responsibilities

  • Work with technical specialists to enhance sensors for blood gas analysis.
  • Plan and execute physical and chemical experiments to investigate sensor designs, including the synthesis and characterization of functional components.
  • Optimize chemical compositions and synthesis processes to improve material stability, extend shelf life, and simplify storage requirements.
  • Provide scientific support to the development team to deepen understanding of complex electrochemical sensors, focusing on their characterization and optimization.
  • Manage specific work packages by planning experiments, conducting tests, and preparing detailed analyses and documentation using data analysis software.

Requirements

  • Current student or recent graduate with a Master's or PhD in Engineering or Science from a Technical University.
  • Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Graduation must have occurred within the 12 months preceding the internship start date.
  • Initial experience in biochemical sensor characterization and the development of sensor simulations.
  • Proficiency in Python coding, computational chemistry, sensor testing, and characterization techniques.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in the German language is preferred.
