Swiss TPH seeks a senior biomedical engineering expert specializing in medical oxygen systems for short-term consultancy roles within international health projects.
The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) operates as a public institution dedicated to enhancing global and national health through research, services, and education. Its Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH) focuses on consultancy, project management, and applied research in international health. The organization is currently expanding its pool of experts to support short-term consultancy engagements.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional training related to the design, procurement, installation, assembly, and maintenance of medical oxygen plants.
- Oversee the overall system design and delivery of medical oxygen services within hospital settings.
- Draft policy documents and develop technical guidelines for medical oxygen systems.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical, Electrical, or Mechanical engineering, accredited by a relevant institution.
- Possess at least eight years of relevant experience managing or advising on the financing, design, specifications, sourcing, procurement, installation, commissioning, storage, distribution, maintenance, and use of patient treatment equipment, particularly in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
- Demonstrate excellent command of the English language.
- Have a required proficiency in French.
- Show strong analytical, writing, and reporting capabilities, along with excellent spoken communication skills.
Nice to have
- A graduate degree (MSc. equivalent) is preferred, though this can be substituted by an additional four years of professional experience.
- Prior experience in the oxygen industry is highly valued.
- Expertise in designing and specifying medical oxygen equipment and systems for public and/or private health sectors.
- Knowledge of oxygen storage and distribution systems.
- Experience with the installation, assembly, and commissioning of oxygen equipment for PSA plants, including infrastructure needs, maintenance, and servicing.
- A solid understanding of the global and/or regional oxygen ecosystem, including applicable national and international laws and recognized quality standards.
- Expertise in sourcing and procuring all oxygen-delivery systems (PSA plants, ancillary devices, and equipment), including regulations and the tendering process.
- Ability to advise on the financing of oxygen systems, including total cost of ownership analysis.
- Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is a strong asset.
- Capacity to work under pressure and experience in fragile or challenging operating environments.
