Roche seeks a Senior Expert Scientist to lead early-stage discovery in cardiovascular and renal diseases, guiding programs from target validation through preclinical candidate selection.
This position serves as the primary scientific leader for the CVRM therapeutic area, responsible for shaping the early pipeline for cardiovascular and renal conditions. The expert acts as the main architect for new discovery initiatives, overseeing the journey from initial target assessment to the selection of preclinical candidates, and reports directly to the Discovery Head of CVRM.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute scientific strategies to confirm disease-modifying targets within cardiovascular and renal fields.
- Spearhead initiatives focused on complex mechanisms such as myocardial energetics and podocyte injury.
- Manage cross-functional teams working on small molecules, RNA-based therapies, and advanced biologics.
- Supervise the use of 3D cardiac organoids and kidney-on-a-chip technologies.
- Ensure the scientific rigor of preclinical pharmacology and the design of lead candidates for IND/CTA submissions.
- Act as the technical expert for assessing external assets and biotech platforms.
- Build and maintain partnerships with academic institutions and research consortia.
Requirements
- Over a decade of progressive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry or high-level academic translation.
- Proven track record of advancing CV/renal assets from early concepts to successful IND/CTA filings and First-in-Human readiness.
- PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in Cardiovascular Physiology, Renal Physiology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related life sciences field.
- Deep expertise in cardiorenal pathophysiology, including CKD/Nephropathy, Myocardial Remodeling & Fibrosis, the Cardiorenal Axis, Genetic & Rare Diseases, and Atherosclerosis & Lipid Metabolism.
- Fluent proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
