Commissioning Engineer 80 - 100% (f/m/d)

ABB Power Grids seeks a Mid-level Commissioning Engineer to oversee SCADA/RTU commissioning for substation automation systems in Switzerland and abroad.

This position supports the Grid Automation Systems team by managing the commissioning of substation automation systems for medium-complexity projects. The engineer ensures these systems are tested, validated, and accepted by customers at various sites.

Responsibilities

• Conduct testing and commissioning of substation automation systems at customer locations across Switzerland and internationally.
• Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to Hitachi Energy and customer safety protocols.
• Execute tasks according to established process descriptions and checklists.
• Track and resolve open issues to secure customer sign-off prior to site demobilization.
• Provide regular updates on site progress and planning.
• Deliver marked-up drawings to engineering teams for as-built documentation and final submissions.
• Assist in planning and implementing commissioning activities.
• Implement design changes and provide mark-ups for as-built project documentation.
• Coordinate site activities required to finalize customer acceptance certification.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 4+ years of experience as a commissioning engineer for automation systems and related products.
• Strong knowledge of substation SCADA/RTU systems, HMI principles, and Hitachi Energy products.
• Understanding of protection philosophies.
• Basic knowledge of communication protocols such as IEC 61850, LON, IEC 101–104, DNP.
• Ability to read schematic drawings and identify discrepancies.
• Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Familiarity with engineering toolchains typical for SAS/SCADA (IET600, PCM600, MicroSCADA).
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice to have

• German language proficiency is preferred.
