The International Organization for Migration seeks a Coordination and Support Officer to provide strategic, technical, and organizational assistance to the Deputy Director General for Operations in Geneva.
This position delivers strategic, technical, analytical, and organizational backing to the Deputy Director General for Operations (DDG-O) and the broader Operations Pillar. The officer also assists the DDG-O with duties linked to the Deputy Regional Director (Operations) stationed at regional offices.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate alignment and efficient execution across various offices, including regional units, departments, and divisions.
- Track departmental workplans and advise on emerging needs and optimal practices.
- Organize preparations for the DDG-O's attendance at headquarters, field, and external events.
- Compile operational and programmatic updates to maintain a unified view of global activities.
- Conduct data analysis, synthesis, and horizon scanning to aid strategic choices.
- Draft briefing notes, situation summaries, talking points, presentations, and response drafts.
- Arrange regular briefings for the DDG-O regarding significant operational developments.
- Oversee and follow up on tasks and priorities designated by the DDG-O.
- Create and upkeep coordination tools such as trackers and spreadsheets.
- Distribute information on upcoming deadlines and actions to Operational Pillar departments.
- Maintain accurate records of correspondence, decisions, formal approvals, and memos.
Requirements
- A Master's degree in Political and/or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, International Relations, or a related discipline, accompanied by five years of relevant professional experience; or a Bachelor's degree in these fields with seven years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience in support and coordination within a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
- Extensive background in agenda setting, delivering high-level presentations, and reviewing documents.
- Substantial experience in developing policies, strategies, and workplans for diverse stakeholders.
- Fluent proficiency in English, both oral and written.
Nice to have
- Familiarity and experience in policy development and research.
- Background in resources and administrative management.
- Understanding of organizational policies, practices, and systems connected to Operations.
- Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
