Proton seeks a Database Platform Engineer in Geneva to manage and scale its MySQL infrastructure, ensuring high availability and security for its user-focused services.

As a member of the infrastructure department's database team, this position focuses on maintaining the reliability and scalability of Proton's core database systems. The engineer will drive improvements to the database platform, aiming to enhance user experience through increased availability, security, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support a large-scale fleet of critical MySQL databases, utilizing ProxySQL for access.
  • Enhance automation efforts to decrease manual operational tasks and boost system reliability.
  • Create and implement new operational procedures and workflows.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and code to streamline database platform management.
  • Optimize database infrastructure layers, including hardware, operating systems, storage, and networking.
  • Diagnose complex technical issues to identify root causes and deliver lasting solutions.
  • Plan and execute upgrades across the entire database stack to keep the platform current.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience managing highly available database systems.
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages.
  • Solid understanding of MySQL, ProxySQL, Ansible, and Linux environments.
  • Experience in performance tuning and diagnosing issues at the OS, database, and application levels.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools like Puppet and observability platforms.
  • Foundational knowledge of networking, server hardware, storage, and operating systems relevant to database operations.
