Blockstream, a leading Bitcoin infrastructure company, seeks a Mid-level DevOps Engineer in Zurich to build and operate secure blockchain platforms for enterprise clients. The role involves cloud infrastructure, CI/CD automation, container orchestration, and compliance in regulated financial environments.

The DevOps Engineer role at Blockstream supports the Service & Enterprise Solutions team by developing and maintaining secure, scalable infrastructure for blockchain and digital asset platforms. This position collaborates across Solution Architects, Delivery, Product, and Engineering to deliver enterprise-grade solutions for clients in banking, custody, and payments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage cloud infrastructure for blockchain platforms used in banking, custody, payments, and digital asset services
  • Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment, testing, and release processes
  • Deploy infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
  • Operate containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Manage environments across AWS, Azure, hybrid, and on-premise systems
  • Apply security hardening, secrets management, encryption, and access controls
  • Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or CloudWatch
  • Support production deployments, go-live events, and incident response activities
  • Work with Solution Architects to ensure infrastructure meets security, compliance, and architectural standards
  • Develop reusable infrastructure patterns, automation frameworks, and operational documentation

Requirements

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, SRE, or infrastructure operations
  • Proven experience building and operating infrastructure in fintech or regulated financial environments
  • Strong skills with cloud platforms, especially AWS, with Azure or GCP as a plus
  • Experience with CI/CD tools including Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or ArgoCD
  • Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Pulumi
  • Solid scripting abilities in Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration
  • Deep understanding of security, networking, and compliance in regulated industries
  • Self-motivated and able to collaborate across teams and geographies, delivering high-quality results with strong client engagement
  • Ability to work effectively with architects, engineers, delivery teams, and client technical contacts
  • Fluent in English; Swiss German, German, French, or Italian is beneficial
  • Must be located in Switzerland, with focus on Zurich or Lugano

Nice to have

  • Experience with blockchain infrastructure, such as Bitcoin nodes or Lightning Network
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and blockchain-specific operational needs
  • Experience using monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or ELK
  • Knowledge of service mesh, API gateways, or load-balancing technologies
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator)
  • Interest in advancing to Senior DevOps Engineer or SRE leadership positions
  • Enthusiasm for Bitcoin, digital assets, and blockchain-based financial infrastructure
