ClearSpace seeks a Director of Business Development to drive commercial growth in space operations, focusing on sales, partnerships, and strategic pipeline management across Europe.

Founded in 2018, ClearSpace addresses the critical challenges of in-orbit servicing and space debris removal through reusable, affordable, and sustainable solutions. This director-level position is pivotal for expanding the commercial pipeline within the ClearSpace Group, operating in a fast-paced environment that encourages continuous learning and dynamic collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Drive sales efforts targeting satellite operators, insurers, underwriters, and other private space entities.
  • Cultivate and strengthen client relationships while leading proposal development to secure new revenue streams.
  • Oversee cross-functional business development tasks, including capture management and proposal production.
  • Identify viable commercial opportunities and align future product and service offerings accordingly.
  • Maintain and prioritize the commercial pipeline database to guide project selection and R&D focus.
  • Ensure alignment and coherence of commercial activities across all ClearSpace entities.
  • Collaborate with the business development team to refine analyses of customers, markets, and competitors.
  • Assist in creating financial models, pricing strategies, and business cases for commercial ventures.
  • Monitor market trends to anticipate and capitalize on emerging commercial opportunities.
  • Manage the end-to-end business acquisition process for commercial bids and proposals.
  • Oversee proposal production schedules to ensure timely delivery and compliance with customer needs.
  • Enforce bid execution standards in line with Product and Quality Assurance protocols.
  • Manage bid finances, including pricing structures, margin targets, and commercial risk assessment.
  • Coordinate inputs from partners involved in multi-partner commercial agreements.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and customer-facing engagements.
  • Manage key accounts for satellite operators, space insurance providers, and in-orbit servicing clients.
  • Negotiate and finalize commercial agreements, service packages, and pricing models.
  • Partner with the Product Development team to define new or iterative service offerings.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in commercial sales or business development within the space sector.
  • Experience in direct sales to satellite operators, insurers, or in-orbit servicing clients is preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of the commercial space ecosystem, including insurance markets and servicing sectors.
  • Strong commercial acumen with expertise in risk management, pricing, and margin control.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication abilities.

Nice to have

  • Technical understanding of spacecraft systems.
  • Familiarity with space insurance markets and underwriting for servicing and debris removal.
  • Knowledge of export control regulations, including ITAR or dual-use licensing.
  • Established network with satellite operators, insurers, or servicing customers.
  • Prior experience in bidding for or selling in-orbit servicing, debris removal, or situational awareness services.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as a team player.
  • Flexibility to work within geographically distributed teams.
  • Strong communication skills.
