Head of Engineering - Developer Experience & Platform (f/m/d)

Awin AG seeks an Executive to lead Developer Experience and Platform Engineering, driving AI innovation, cloud standardization, and engineering efficiency across its global organization.

This executive position sits at the core of Awin AG’s technical strategy, focusing on engineering excellence, platform development, and the integration of artificial intelligence. The role is responsible for defining the end-to-end developer experience, leading the teams that support the engineering organization, and ensuring the tooling and processes enable the highest levels of productivity and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Developer Experience programme.
• Analyze data and engage with engineering teams to identify friction points and systemic inefficiencies.
• Implement organization-wide improvements to technology stacks, tooling, and engineering workflows.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators, including DORA metrics and developer satisfaction scores.
• Manage the developer tools portfolio, including budgeting, evaluation, and procurement.
• Lead the strategic assessment and deployment of new tooling, such as CI/CD platforms and IDE enhancements.
• Drive the adoption of AI-native software development practices and scale the use of AI-augmented tools.
• Design and deliver training programmes to improve AI fluency across engineering teams.
• Standardize cloud platform usage on AWS by establishing golden paths and reference architectures.
• Oversee cloud migration and infrastructure modernization to enhance reliability and security.
• Manage AWS costs and implement FinOps practices, including budgeting and cost optimization.
• Develop internal developer platform capabilities to abstract cloud complexity for engineering teams.
• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team covering developer experience, platform engineering, and tooling.
• Shape the technical culture, engineering standards, and ways of working within the organization.

Requirements

• Extensive background in software engineering with hands-on coding experience in major programming languages.
• Deep understanding of AI-native software development and agentic workflows.
• Proven leadership experience in developer experience, platform engineering, or similar roles within mid-to-large scale tech organizations.
• Strong grasp of the software development lifecycle and engineering best practices.
• Demonstrable success in leading and improving CI/CD practices and developer tooling ecosystems.
• Strong expertise in AWS, including infrastructure-as-code, container platforms, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience with FinOps or cloud cost management at scale.
• Track record of delivering organization-wide change programmes with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience designing and using developer experience metrics frameworks.
• Ability to lead, inspire, and grow engineering teams in a fast-paced, distributed environment.
• Strong commercial awareness, including managing budgets and building business cases.
• Experience working in global, distributed engineering organisations across multiple time zones.
