Syngenta Group seeks a Senior HSE Lead in Münchwilen to steer site-wide health, safety, and environmental governance. The role focuses on embedding proactive risk management into operations and leading a dedicated team.
The company is looking for a strategic leader to direct the Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSE) framework at its Münchwilen facility. This position ensures that safety and environmental standards are deeply integrated into daily operations, capital projects, and leadership decisions, fostering a culture of proactive risk ownership within a complex piloting environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and enhance the HSE management system for synthesis, scale-up, and piloting activities.
- Manage key site risks by ensuring line leaders own and deliver mitigation plans with adequate resources.
- Guarantee adherence to Swiss laws, global Syngenta HSE standards, security protocols, and emergency procedures.
- Establish clear accountability structures, decision-making rights, and escalation pathways for project teams and line functions.
- Advise the Site Manager and leadership team on risk-based choices, integrating HSE into design, asset lifecycle, and change management processes.
- Convert global HSE strategies into actionable local plans that support operational flexibility.
- Cultivate a proactive safety mindset through visible leadership, coaching, engagement, and robust near-miss reporting.
- Direct investigations into incidents and high-potential events to drive systemic learning and lasting improvements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four HSE specialists while raising safety capabilities across the broader organization.
- Maintain relationships with authorities, emergency services, and external experts, coordinating inspections and regulatory reporting.
- Represent the Münchwilen site in global HSE networks by sharing best practices and challenges.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical/Process Engineering, Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Typically 8+ years of HSE leadership experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, or fine-chemical manufacturing, with R&D or pilot-plant background preferred.
- Demonstrated success in building HSE management systems, driving cultural transformation, and managing regulatory interactions.
- Fluent proficiency in both German and English.
