Intern - Research

Siemens Healthineers seeks an Intern for Research within its Medical Image Analysis team, focusing on deep learning for 3D medical imaging and reproducible AI pipelines.

This internship is embedded in the Artificial Intelligence India (AII) team at Siemens Healthineers, specifically within the Medical Image Analysis focus area. The position supports the broader mission of creating breakthrough technologies that enhance precision medicine, streamline digital clinical workflows, and promote sustainable healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and curate imaging datasets by handling preprocessing, augmentation, quality checks, and annotation alignment.
• Investigate advanced deep learning architectures to improve 3D medical image analysis capabilities.
• Build reproducible pipelines for training, validating, and benchmarking machine learning models.
• Conduct detailed error analysis, debug models, and evaluate robustness and uncertainty.
• Collaborate with AI scientists, domain experts, and engineers to transform research concepts into prototypes or products.
• Implement experimental workflows in accordance with internal engineering standards and documentation guidelines.
• Document and present findings through reports, presentations, or research publications.

Requirements

• Demonstrated strong background in deep learning and medical image analysis.
• Hands-on experience with computer vision models, particularly for 3D imaging tasks.
• Proficiency in at least one deep learning framework, such as PyTorch.
• Solid Python coding skills, including familiarity with NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV, and other scientific toolkits.
• Working knowledge of Git, reproducible experiment practices, and clean coding standards.
• Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with model optimization techniques, such as distributed training or hyperparameter search.
• Understanding of at least one medical imaging domain, including CT, MRI, X-ray, or Ultrasound.
• Relevant coursework or prior projects in AI/ML.
