Junior Manufacturing Engineer (f/m/x)

Smith & Nephew (Switzerland) seeks a Junior Manufacturing Engineer in Aarau to lead design transfers, manage manufacturing projects, and ensure compliance with quality standards for medical devices.

This position focuses on supporting the transition of new designs into production, managing internal manufacturing initiatives, and implementing process changes. The role exists to ensure that advanced medical devices are manufactured efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements, while collaborating closely with various internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the transfer of designs to manufacturing, oversee internal projects, and execute manufacturing changes within set time, quality, and budget constraints.
  • Plan and monitor project execution, including scheduling, budget management, progress tracking, and reporting to governance groups.
  • Serve as the technical expert for manufacturing processes by developing, validating, and implementing robust solutions for advanced medical devices.
  • Conduct process risk assessments and perform characterization or capability studies.
  • Provide technical consulting and support regarding manufacturing changes, quality issues, and supplier matters.
  • Create and maintain compliant technical documentation, such as Design Dossiers, Design History Files (DHF), process specifications, and Master Bill of Materials (MBOMs) in Windchill PLM.
  • Adhere to the company’s quality policy and all related procedures and instructions.
  • Report any product or process deviations to the manager or Quality department.
  • Complete all required training in Quality and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Immediately report any customer or patient complaints regarding Smith & Nephew products to the complaints department.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies, including job hazard analyses.
  • Assist in identifying and procuring new manufacturing equipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including cost reduction opportunities.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree, HF, or Technician qualification with limited or no prior relevant work experience.
  • Understanding of quality control, risk mitigation, and statistical process control techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and capacity to develop long-term solutions.
  • Familiarity with Lean management tools.
  • Proficiency in office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate and write documentation or reports in English.
