Lead MLOps Engineer (GCP)

Visium seeks a Lead MLOps Engineer in Zürich, CH, to design and maintain scalable ML systems on Google Cloud Platform. The role emphasizes software engineering excellence, end-to-end ownership of production services, and collaboration with data science teams in a hybrid work environment.

This role is for a Lead MLOps Engineer with extensive experience in building production-grade systems and exposure to MLOps and ML systems. The focus is on software development excellence, including clean architecture, high-quality code, and reliable systems at scale. The engineer will work with business stakeholders to deliver scalable, maintainable ML solutions on Google Cloud Platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable software systems that support machine learning use cases
  • Take full ownership of production services, from design and implementation to testing, deployment, and monitoring
  • Apply and advocate for software engineering best practices, including clean code, architecture patterns, testing, and CI/CD
  • Build and maintain APIs, services, and data pipelines used by machine learning systems
  • Implement MLOps workflows with an engineering focus, emphasizing automation, reproducibility, and monitoring
  • Design and operate cloud-native systems using Google Cloud Platform
  • Work closely with ML engineers and data scientists to integrate models into production environments
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and contribute to technical decisions

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in software engineering
  • Strong programming abilities and proven track record in building production systems
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, system design, and distributed systems
  • Experience applying engineering best practices in real-world settings
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, with deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and production monitoring tools
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work on-site in Winterthur once per week, or if based outside Switzerland, availability to travel
