Lead Motor and Drive Engineer

Logitech G seeks a Lead Motor and Drive Engineer in Lausanne to oversee the full lifecycle of actuation systems, from initial concept through to mass production and validation.

This position is responsible for leading the architecture, design, and development of motor and drive subsystems for Logitech’s consumer and professional products. The engineer will own the technical trajectory from early concept phases through to final production launch, ensuring high performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Spearhead the architectural design and development of motor and drive systems for company products.
• Establish detailed subsystem specifications covering torque, speed, efficiency, acoustic profile, thermal management, lifespan, and control precision.
• Choose and refine motors, geartrains, encoders, sensors, drivers, and power electronics to align with product goals.
• Optimize motion control solutions to balance performance, reliability, noise, vibration, power usage, and cost.
• Collaborate with embedded software and electrical engineering teams on control algorithms, feedback loops, and drive implementations.
• Conduct system modeling, simulation, prototyping, characterization, and design validation activities.
• Perform tradeoff analyses regarding actuator performance, packaging limits, user experience, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Lead root-cause analysis and resolution for issues related to motion quality, thermal behavior, EMC, durability, and field performance.
• Develop validation plans, test methods, and acceptance criteria for motor and drive subsystems.
• Work with suppliers to define specifications, review designs, qualify components, and enhance subsystem performance.
• Ensure designs comply with regulatory, safety, and quality requirements.
• Create and maintain technical documentation including requirements, design reviews, FMEAs, test reports, and production specifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in motor, actuator, or drive system development.
• Strong knowledge of DC motors, BLDC motors, stepper motors, servo systems, and related drive architectures.
• Experience with motor control principles including closed-loop control, feedback systems, and performance tuning
• Strong understanding of power electronics, motor drivers, sensing, and actuator integration.
• Experience with mechatronic system design, including interactions between mechanical, electrical, and software elements.
• Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools for motion systems, thermal behavior, and dynamic performance
• Experience defining and executing validation plans for motor and drive performance, reliability, and production readiness.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills in complex hardware systems.
• Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional product development environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in consumer electronics, robotics, haptics, camera motion systems, smart devices, or precision actuation products.
• Familiarity with FOC, PID control tuning, encoder integration, current sensing, and sensorless control methods.
• Experience with low-noise and low-vibration motion system design.
• Understanding of geartrain design, backlash, efficiency, and mechanical transmission tradeoffs.
• Experience with battery-powered systems and power optimization.
• Familiarity with EMC/EMI considerations in motor drive systems.
• Experience with supplier development and high-volume manufacturing support.
• Knowledge of DFM, DFA, DFMEA, PFMEA, and production test methods
• Experience leading subsystem development from concept through mass production.
