R&D MECHANICAL ENGINEER - GEARBOX DESIGN

Faulhaber MINIMOTOR seeks a Mid-level R&D Mechanical Engineer in Montagnola, CH, to lead gearbox design projects, manage product development lifecycles, and ensure technical excellence through CAD and project management expertise.

The company is looking for a mechanical engineer to serve as the primary project leader for new product initiatives, with a specific focus on the design and development of gearheads. This role involves overseeing the entire creation process, from initial concepts and technical calculations to final manufacturing procedures and sustainability assessments, while coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end development of mechanical products, including creating design proposals, construction drawings, prototypes, and manufacturing instructions.
• Conduct technical calculations and analyze test results for both standard and custom equipment.
• Evaluate and improve environmental and sustainability factors throughout the product life cycle (LCA) during the design phase.
• Optimize product performance from technical, logistical, and production control perspectives.
• Monitor project progress and support the industrialization of products for manufacturing.
• Manage and prepare comprehensive technical documentation for all projects.
• Process and execute engineering change requests.
• Communicate with international suppliers to define technical specifications for components.
• Provide technical support to the sales team when needed.
• Assist in analyzing the feasibility of production investments.
• Collaborate with relevant departments to address non-compliances and handle product certification.
• Present project results and strategic decisions to management or steering committees.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a closely related field.
• Proven experience in mechanical design and product development, ideally with small gearheads.
• Solid understanding of core project management principles.
• Proficiency in Siemens NX for 3D CAD and PLM Teamcenter.
• Ability to follow methodical procedures to achieve defined targets.
• Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
• High level of organization, creativity, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Fluency in Italian and English is required; knowledge of German and French is advantageous.
