FAULHABER MINIMOTOR SA seeks a Senior Principal Motion Systems Engineer to lead technical sales and application engineering for tiered OEM accounts in Switzerland.

This senior-level role functions as the primary technical expert for motion system solutions, collaborating closely with regional Account Managers to drive business growth at key OEM accounts. The position serves as the central technical liaison between clients, FAULHABER Motion Systems, and broader Group specialists, providing advanced application engineering support and technical guidance for all product lines.

Responsibilities

  • Create technical strategies to secure, retain, and expand existing business relationships.
  • Share responsibility for managing customer partnerships at major OEM accounts alongside territory Account Managers.
  • Design and engineer bespoke motion system solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Oversee project scope, timelines, and deliverables to ensure successful execution.
  • Formulate competitive quotation strategies and negotiate pricing, technical specifications, and contractual agreements.
  • Resolve complex technical challenges, analyze system performance, optimize control loops, and deliver specialized training to clients.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to establish new contacts and build relationships within OEM accounts.
  • Skill in identifying and qualifying new business opportunities aligned with the company’s business model and customer needs.
  • Capacity to influence and guide customer product development processes.
  • Application and design engineering expertise to create custom motion system solutions.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Control Theory.
  • Advanced proficiency in signal processing, filtering, FFT, and estimation techniques.
  • Deep technical understanding of various motor types, including DC Brush, PMSM, and Stepper motors.
  • Ability to model and tune control systems using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
  • Coding skills in Python, C/C++, Basic, and Visual Basic.
  • Understanding of real-time programming principles relevant to motion system design.
  • Experience coding in IEC61131-3 environments such as CODESYS, TWINCAT, and PLCopen.
  • Expert knowledge of industrial network protocols including CANopen, EtherCAT, RS232, USB, and sensor interfaces like BiSS, SSI, and SPI.
  • Advanced understanding of hardware and software embedded design for microprocessor-based control systems.
  • Familiarity with Windows, Linux, and real-time operating systems.
  • Expertise in Multiphysics Finite Element Analysis for static, dynamic, and thermal modeling in motion system design.
  • Ability to create and manipulate 3D CAD models for presentations and conceptual proposals.
  • Knowledge of electrical design, including power management, distribution, cabling, EMC, and EMI.
  • Working knowledge of Low Voltage, Machine, and Functional Safety standards.
  • Understanding of Quality Standards such as ISO9001 and ISO13485.
  • System-level critical thinking with experience in Root Cause Analysis and 8D reporting.
  • Understanding of Risk analysis.
  • Ability to identify and propose unique technical USPs for optimizing motion system design and manufacturing.
  • Skill in identifying key stakeholders, gatekeepers, and decision-makers in both technical and commercial contexts.
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas concisely, effectively, and respectfully, especially with non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to work hands-on in field environments to solve technical problems, analyze system behavior, tune control loops, and provide training.
