This position supports the global oil trading team by delivering detailed market analysis, developing supply and demand models, and providing actionable insights to inform trading strategies. Based in Geneva, the role focuses on fuel oil and LPG markets, leveraging high-frequency data and industry intelligence to support decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Gather, analyze, and interpret market data to generate insights on commodity markets
- Research and analyze fuel oil markets, including supply and demand factors, pricing trends, arbitrage opportunities, and regulatory changes in key trading regions
- Develop and maintain supply-demand models, and create market reports, presentations, and trade recommendations to guide trading decisions
- Deliver trade flow analysis and other ad-hoc studies to assist senior traders and management in strategic planning
- Work closely with trading, operations, and other analysis teams to spot opportunities, track positions, and manage risk
- Design and maintain proprietary tools and models for market forecasting and scenario planning
- Monitor industry news, market intelligence, and competitor actions to maintain a competitive advantage
- Build relationships with refiners, suppliers, and customers to collect market intelligence
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline
- At least 4 years of experience in commodity analysis or a similar analytical role, ideally with fuel oil or refined products exposure
- Prior experience in LPG market analysis
- Strong quantitative and analytical abilities to process complex data and derive meaningful conclusions
- Experience with trade data, data visualization tools, and statistical modeling software
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python, R, SQL, and Microsoft Office
- Understanding of commodity trading basics, risk management, and financial modeling
- Fluency in English
Nice to have
- Advanced degree (e.g., master’s or PhD)
- Fluency in a second foreign language
- Programming skills and knowledge of database systems (Python and SQL preferred; R, MATLAB, or VBA also valuable)
- Direct experience in LPG markets
