Management Accountant

Stadlerrail seeks a Management Accountant in Newcastle to deliver accurate financial reporting and commercial insights while ensuring compliance with UK GAAP.

This position is based at the Newcastle or Liverpool headquarters and reports directly to the Senior Management Accountant. The primary purpose of the role is to provide precise financial reporting and actionable commercial insights to support the business.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts in accordance with UK GAAP and Group standards.
  • Ensure accurate booking of transactions and timely closure of the trial balance at period ends.
  • Conduct variance analysis comparing actual results against budgets and forecasts, providing clear insights.
  • Analyze profitability at the contract level to aid operational improvements and strategic decisions.
  • Generate cash flow forecasts to assist with budgeting, forecasting, and working capital management.
  • Manage provisions for stock obsolescence.
  • Produce UK statutory accounts and stay updated on changes to accounting standards and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit VAT and other necessary regulatory returns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop standardized reporting templates aligned with Division standards.
  • Drive the automation and digitalization of finance processes using Business and Artificial Intelligence tools.
  • Maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, bankers, insurers, and pensions advisors.

Requirements

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant status.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to prioritize a demanding workload.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to challenge assumptions.
  • Inquisitive mindset with a proactive approach to change and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent IT skills, including experience with Power BI.

Nice to have

  • Experience in contract accounting.
  • Awareness of digital tools and automation in finance.
